This recent college day, we went on a trip to Cal Poly in Pomona. At this school, there are many different colleges, including agriculture, medical, engineering, and performing arts. The campus was much larger than I thought it would be, and had a lot more trees and grass than I expected as well. We had a guided tour at first, which was led by former High Tech High students. We first visited the dorms, which were pretty small, but had only 2 people in them. They told us that freshmen were required to live on campus in dorms and have meal plans. The tour leader also told us that the meal plans are the major thing that can drive up the cost of college. We then walked around the college campus and looked at the many buildings they had. Pomona is a polytechnic institute, which means that there is 30-40% more lab time than non-polytechnic schools.
I am currently looking at ornithology or oceanography as career paths, and as the school is primarily engineering based, I don't think I'll be applying next year.
